A little back story on this post, For the last 3 or 4 months I have been posting answers to questions on Quora because there is a surprising number of people that give NPD BPD and other personality disorders a free pass, at least in my opinion a free pass. People have given me a fairly hard time about my comments and approach to personality disorders. I have been around and with so many of the people over my lifetime that I have seen these behaviors from many different angles. I wouldn't presume think I have seen it all but certainly more behavior in the "wild" rather than on their best manipulative behavior observed clinically. Below in bold is the question asked and then the answer I added that was hidden by the moderator because it failed to meet the "be nice" rule. Out of five answers only two of us actually addressed the question. Some of the others said it was being addressed and not swept under the rug. Some of the now erased comments belittled the the person asking and it pissed me off. I decided to say tahell with nice let's get real. I hope you enjoy my answer.
Why is the whole issue of BPD brushed under the carpet? So many people have it and so many are affected by people who have it.
I think this is a dandy question because there is a whole lotta minimizing and pandering going on when it comes to the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. People tend to give these parasites a free pass because this is classified as a “mental Illness”. When we look at drug addiction and or alcoholism that is also a “mental Illness” and in order for people to recover they are required to admit what they have done and take responsibility for their actions and behaviors and not just blame it on the “disease” or the booze/drugs. Borderlines at this time are given a free pass on the carnage and total destruction they leave in their wake. People think that they should be treated with compassion and all that warm fuzzy bullshit. These folks typically do not take responsibility for anything and if they do happen to admit to being wrong there is almost always the “yea but” disclaimer. Example: Yes I bounced 12 checks but it was the damned banks fault for giving me too many checks for the amount of money I had in the bank. Therapists and mental health professionals that give BPD’s this “compassionate” treatment are little more than the flying monkey’s that reinforce the behavior. So to bring this out in the open we need to expose these people for shit that they have done. This includes the BPD parent abusing their children, the gold digger that screws a compassionate person out of their money. The Financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual mutilation that they inflict on others. Until people are aware of what these people are doing we will continue to breed more of these behavioral disorders. As for the people who say “these people have the emotional IQ of a six year old and should be coddled” I refer you to the song Don Henley wrote called “Get Over It”! This line fits perfectly “I’d like to find your inner child and kick it’s little ass”
Hank Tahelluride OUT!!!
Just for the record I do agree that this post could be considered "not nice" by all including me. Personality disorders are not nice.
